The two men's semi-finals at the 2014 Indian Wells Masters will see Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in action on Saturday.
The stakes become higher as we approach the close of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells in California.
In the first semi-final of the men’s draw, 28th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine will face seventh seed Swiss Roger Federer. Dolgopolov stunned the much higher-ranked Canadian Milos Raonic in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to enter his first semi-final in a Masters tournament.
He had earlier upset defending champion and top seed Rafael Nadal.
The Swiss Federer defeated Kevin Anderson from South Africa 7-5, 6-1 in his quarter-final match to make it 10 wins in a row for him. Federer leads 1-0 in the head to head between the two players.
In the other semi-final, 12th seed John Isner takes on the might of the second seeded and crowd favourite Novak Djokovic. The American Isner got the better of Ernests Gulbis 7-6, 7-6 in a tense two-setter quarter-final match.
Djokovic drubbed unseeded Frenchman Julien Benneteau 6-1, 6-3 with much ease, not facing even a single break point during the quarter-final which lasted just over an hour.
In their six previous meetings, Djokovic has got the better of Isner four times, with the last win coming at Paris in 2013. Interestingly enough Isner did beat Djokovic in Indian Wells in 2012 at the same stage.
In the final of the women’s doubles, the top seeded pair of Hsieh Su-wei and Shuai Peng will meet Cara Black and Sania Mirza, seeded fifth. The Cara Black-Sania Mirza pair won 6-4, 3-6, 7-10 against eighth seeded pair of Jie Zheng and Lucie Hradeck while the top seeds got past wildcard entrants Svetlana Kuznetsova and Samantha Stosur in the semi-final 3-6, 7-6, 10-2.
In the men’s doubles final, the top seeded Bryan brothers will meet the pair of Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares, seeded second. The Bryans beat the pair of John Isner and Sam Querrey 6-7, 6-1, 10-7 in the semi-final while the second seeds toyed with the pairing of Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 6-1 to advance to this round.
