The China Daily have reported that Novak Djokovic and Li Na will meet at the China Open for an exhibition 'battle of the sexes' match.
According to the report, the fans in attendance at the Chinese National Tennis Centre will be in for a treat on the 27th of September, as World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is scheduled to take on China's No. 1 Li Na in a 'battle of the sexes' exhibition match to honour the 10th anniversary of the China Open. The contest is intended as a bit of light-hearted fun and should provide an enjoyable start to the prestigious event, which is currently part of the ATP 500 Series and the WTA Premier Tier.
The China Open will be hosting a number of other big names this season, including Victoria Azarenka, and US Open champions Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams. The women's event will be offering a prize pot in excess of $5million, whilst the ATP commitment is over $2million.
Fans will be particularly interested to see Li have a go against Djokovic. Li remains China's only female slam winner and she's currently a national hero thanks to her exploits over the past few years on the tennis tour. Djokovic, meanwhile, has enjoyed another great season and added another slam to his growing collection at the Australian Open in January.
The profits from the match will be donated to the youth tennis development program of the Soong Ching Ling Foundation. The contest conveniently takes place during the Chinese National Day holiday.
