Roberta Vinci v Coco Vandeweghe Wimbledon 2016 tennis live - Tough three-setter in the offin

Roberta Vinci will be in action on Sunday.

An exciting match has been set up in the third round of Wimbledon Championships as 27th seeded American Coco Vandeweghe will face the veteran Italian Roberta Vinci, seeded sixth on Sunday.

Both ladies are coming in this match after a sensational performance in the second round. Coincidentally, both needed only an hour to ease past their respective opponents. For the American, it was Timea Babos whom she defeated 6-2, 6-3 while keeping her first service wins stat at 95%, and committing only seven unforced errors.

As for Vinci, her match was against the Chinese Ying-Ying Duan, whom she routed 6-3, 7-5. Her unforced errors count was in the single digits as well, and also won nine out of 10 times while approaching net in her pursuit for round three action.

Vandeweghe's performance prior to the Wimbledon has been quite exceptional, as she managed to break into the top 30 after struggling around it for a long time.

Coco Vandeweghe will take to court against Vinci

After having an average season on hard and clay surfaces, she broke through on grass by winning the WTA 's-Hertogenbosch in Netherlands by defeating Kristina Mladenovic in the final. She followed this with a run to the semifinal in WTA Birmingham, where she defeated Agnieszka Radwanska en-route.

Grass has always been one of the favorite surfaces for Vandeweghe to play on. Around the same time last season, she was competing here against Maria Sharapova on the Centre Court in the quarterfinal. However, that was as far as she could reach considering that she lost in three sets.

As for Vinci, she has had a really quiet season since the shift from hard to clay and grass surfaces. She won the WTA St. Petersburg and moved on to reach the fourth round in WTA Doha and Indian Wells, but failed to repeat the same feats again later on. Nonetheless, these feats helped her reach her career best ranking of no. 7 and it looks quite likely that she may be in the top 10 for a while.

The 2015 US Open runner-up has got a lot of experience on herself from playing in both the formats - singles and doubles. However, the head to head record tally with Vandeweghe is tied at 1-1, as she lost to her earlier this year in WTA Auckland. While the American has managed to struck a blow once, it is quite possible that she may be able to do it again, especially given her momentum.

This is surely going to be a close one, but Vandeweghe should get this in three sets.
