Sydney International 2017 order of play for Thursday, January 12 - Radnwanska, Bouchard in action today

Suneer Chowdhary in News 11 Jan 2017
Agnieszka Radwanska will be in action on Thursday.

It's going to be an action packed day in Sydney International on Thursday with Agnieszka Radwanska, Eugenie Bouchard and Dominic Thiem heading the draw for the day.

Considering the ladies' half first, Radwanska has booked a semifinal meeting against the veteran doubles player Barbora Strycova. The Czech has been in a decent form off lately, having made it to the second consecutive quarterfinal (and this time, beyond) in the season so far.

In the quarterfinal, she defeated former world no. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in three sets to reach the semis. As for the Pole, she had an easy game against Ying-Ying Duan, whom she routed in straight sets.

Head to head speaking, Radwanska leads 6-0 at the moment against Strycova, with two of those wins coming last year. The world no. 3 will start as the favourite here.

Moving to the next semifinal match between the ladies, this is surely going to be far more exciting. British number 1 Johanna Konta will take on the Canadian number 1 Eugenie Bouchard.

While Konta has been in a good form off lately and appears to be quite consistent, this match matters a lot more for Bouchard. This is the first time since 2016 WTA Kuala Lumpur, that the Canadian has made it to the semifinal on the tour. She has been quite sensational in the tournament, having caused an early upset by taking out Dominika Cibulkova in the second round.

Head to head speaking, Bouchard leads 1-0, with last defeating Konta in 2016 WTA London. Since then, however, Konta has grown considerably stronger and she can expect a fight here.

Moving to men's half, Thiem will be leading the quarterfinal draw when he goes up against Daniel Evans of Great Britain. This will be the first meeting between the two players. The Brit ended last season with a tally of 9-10, having spent his time mainly on the Challenger circuit. The young Austrian has been surging ahead with great momentum and consistency, which will be hard for Evans to tackle with his lack of experience.
