World No. 1 Novak Djokovic faces a potential third round blockbuster showdown against Acapulco champion Nick Kyrgios as the Indian Wells Masters draw was released on Tuesday.

(geo restrictions apply; funded account required or to have placed a bet in the last 24 hours to qualify)

Playing his first tournament since winning his seventh Australian Open title in January, Djokovic was drawn into the same quarter as French Open runner-up Dominic Thiem and the same half as World No. 3 Alexander Zverev, but the talk of the section is undoubtedly a possible third round clash with recently-crowned Abierto Mexicano Telcel champion Kyrgios, who will be eager to continue his superb form.

Djokovic - the joint-record five-time champion at Indian Wells with Roger Federer - opens with a bye (as do all the 32 seeds) and faces a qualifier in the second round, but he will have to be on guard from the get-go if Kyrgios is indeed waiting in the Round of 32, with the 31st seed opening his campaign against either Pierre-Hugues Herbert or Philip Kohlschreiber. The Australian beat the likes of Rafael Nadal, Stan Wawrinka, John Isner and Alexander Zverev for the ATP 500 Acapulco title last week - the first time he’s beaten two top three players in the same week - and has a 2-0 record against Djokovic, including beating him in Indian Wells two years ago.

Elsewhere, Nadal will be determined for an immediate bounce back following his shock loss to Kyrgios in Acapulco, with the Spaniard - who has won Indian Wells three times - meeting either Jared Donaldson or a qualifier in his first match in the Californian desert. Nadal is on course for an intriguing fourth round encounter with 14th seed Daniil Medvedev, who has been on fire to begin 2019, and could face big-serving American and eighth seed John Isner in the quarter-finals.

If everything goes to seeded projections, Nadal would take on five-time champion Federer in the semi-finals.

Fresh off capturing his 100th career title in Dubai last week, Federer - who is seeded fourth this tournament - could square off against the dangerous Andreas Seppi in his opening match, before a potential third round contest against compatriot and three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka, or in-form 29th seed Marton Fucsovics. Federer’s seeded fourth round rival is No. 10 Marin Cilic, while No. 6 Kei Nishikori is his projected quarter-final opponent.

Projected ATP Indian Wells Masters quarter-finals

Novak Djokovic (1) vs Dominic Thiem (7)
Alexander Zverev (3) vs Kevin Anderson (5)
Roger Federer (4) vs Kei Nishikori (6)
Rafael Nadal (2) vs John Isner (8)

Potential early round match-ups to look out for

Novak Djokovic (1) vs Nick Kyrgios (31) - Round 3
Alexander Zverev (3) vs Mischa Zverev - Round 2
Stefanos Tsitsipas (9) vs Felix Auger-Aliassime (WC) - Round 2
Roger Federer (4) vs Stan Wawrinka - Round 3
Karen Khachanov (12) vs Tomas Berdych - Round 2
