After smoothly securing his spot in the second round, controversial youngster Nick Kyrgios returns to Centre Court at the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday night.
Kyrgios barely broke a sweat after his opening round opponent Santiago Giraldo retired after the first set of their clash on Monday. The 20-year-old will now aim for a quarter-final spot against Japanese qualifier Tatsuma Ito, who upstaged veteran Jarkko Nieminen in straight sets in his first round encounter.
Ito - who has hovered between the ATP and Challenger Tours for the last few years - has fallen to Australian opponents in his last two ATP main draws, going down to John-Patrick Smith in the Newport quarter-finals and Bernard Tomic in the last eight in Bogota.
Jeremy Chardy, fresh from a tough three-set win over teenager Alexander Zverev on Tuesday, returns to open Centre Court proceedings on Wednesday when he takes on another German in Benjamin Becker.
Third seed Ivo Karlovic is also in second round action against the rapidly improving Nikoloz Basilashvili from Georgia. If Karlovic and Kyrgios prevail they will meet in a quarter-final showdown.
Only two first round matches are left to be completed and they will also take place on Wednesday, when Joao Sousa meets Michal Przysiezny and Mischa Zverev takes on Rajeev Ram.
Grigor Dimitrov - who will begin his singles campaign on Thursday - is also in action, teaming with veteran Leander Paes for a doubles clash against Rameez Junaid and Jonathan Marray.
