With top seed Tomas Berdych being bundled out of St Petersburg on Thursday, all eight quarter-finalists will fancy their chances of lifting the title come Sunday.

Unseeded but talented Italian Simone Bolelli was the man responsible for the early dismissal of Berdych, producing some superb tennis to knock off the world No. 5 in straight sets.

Taking his spot in the draw, Bolelli now goes on to face seventh seed Joao Sousa for a spot in the semi-finals. Sousa is an underrated player and is an effective competitor indoors, but Bolelli’s confidence will be sky-high and he should have enough firepower to advance.

Big-serving Canadian and second seed Milos Raonic will also be licking his lips at the prospect of holding aloft an ATP title here following Berdych’s exit. Hampered by injury for the middle part of the season, Raonic registered a swift workmanlike straight sets win in his second round clash against Evgeny Donskoy. He next faces veteran Spaniard Tommy Robredo, who overcame Marcos Baghdatis. Robredo traditionally struggles against big servers, so Raonic is looking the goods to progress.

Rising Austrian and third seed Dominic Thiem is searching for his fourth title of 2015 after a stellar season. Standing in his way in the last eight is the ever-consistent Denis Istomin. This should be a tight affair, with both players in solid form.

Fourth-seeded Roberto Bautista will square off against unseeded Frenchmn Lucas Pouille in the day’s other quarter-final encounter. A doubles clash between No. 1 seeds Treat Huey/Henri Kontinen against Rameez Junaid/Nicolas Monroe rounds off the day’s proceedings on Centre Court.
