Novak Djokovic and Lucas Pouille meet for the first time on Friday as they battle for a spot in the final of the Australian Open.

Djokovic has never lost an Australian Open semi-final- winning all six matches he has contested at that stage of the competition, while Pouille is contesting his first ever Grand Slam semi-final. the Frenchman had not won a match in Melbourne in his five previous visits prior to this season. The winner of Friday's semi-final moves on to take on Rafael Nadal in the championship match on Sunday.

Ahead of Friday's contest, we examine the key numbers and stats that may play a part in the potential outcome of the match.

Novak Djokovic vs Lucas Pouille

Advantage Djokovic in terms of time spent on court so far- the Serbian has spent almost five hours less than Pouille in navigating a route to the final, and that could be a decisive factor in what should be a physical match. Pouille has hit almost twice as many winners as Djokovic, and he's got to continue being aggressive on Friday, as he doesn't want to engage in too many extended rallies with the world number one. The Frenchman has got to improve that first serve percentage, as 64% is unlikely to cut it against one of the finest returners of all time.

Novak Djokovic vs Lucas Pouille Road to Australian Open 2019 Semi-Final

Unsurprisingly, Djokovic has had the smoother route to the semi-finals, but the world No. 1 has not been without a few hiccups along the way, dropping sets against Denis Shapovalov and Daniil Medvedev. That will encourage Pouille, as he attempts to pull off the upset on Friday. That said, he will have to deliver one of the performances of his career to take down the six-time Australian Open champion.
