Nick Kyrgios continues to cause a stir after his sensational default from the Rome Masters last week, declaring that the upcoming French Open ‘sucks’ and that the tour should ‘get rid of clay’.

One week after his explosive podcast interview in Rome and subsequent default for throwing a chair across court, Kyrgios is back doing what he does best these days - creating headlines for anything but his tennis.

Kyrgios took to Instagram as he walked through the grounds of the All England Club at Wimbledon, where he was preparing to hit with injured former World No. 1 Andy Murray.

Soaking in the atmosphere, it soon dawned on Kyrgios that he had to go and play the French Open on clay next week - and suffice to say, it’s not something he’s looking forward to…

“The fact that I’m here right now and then I have to go to Paris in a couple of days is like... the French Open just sucks compared to this place,” he said in the video.

“It sucks. It absolutely sucks.”

Kyrgios also talked up the famous SW19 at Wimbledon - the tournament he made his initial breakthrough back in 2014 when, as a teenager, he beat Rafael Nadal to make his first Grand Slam quarter-final.

“I think this is the best tournament in the world,” he said of Wimbledon.“Look at this perfect green surface. Get rid of the clay, man. Who likes the clay. It is so bad.”

It should be interesting to see what kind of reception Kyrgios receives when he plays his first match at Roland Garros next week after those comments.

Kyrgios has only lost in the first round once in five previous visits to the French Open and that was when he was ranked No. 160 in 2014 and went down to No. 9 Milos Raonic.

The Australian has made the third round twice and the second round on two occasions in his other appearances. Kyrgios, ranked No. 36, won’t be seeded and could face any number of top players in the first round - including Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, two players he called out in his interview in Rome.
