Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem square off for the 2019 French Open title on Sunday in a blockbuster rematch of last year’s showpiece - and we’ve got all the key numbers, stats, quotes and more ahead of the highly-anticipated showdown!

It’s the King of Clay up against the Prince of Clay for the second year running, but his Dominic Thiem ready to knock Rafael Nadal off his throne at Roland Garros and secure a maiden Grand Slam title?

Thiem has been the second best player on clay for a few years now and is the only man to have beaten Nadal on the surface during that period - including earlier this season at the Barcelona Open when he toppled the Spaniard in straight sets on his way to the title.

However, Nadal has been dominant at the French Open, winning all three of their encounters (in 2014, 2017 and 2018) in straight sets. The 11-time Roland Garros champion suffered a slow start to his European clay season after withdrawing injured from Indian Wells, but he’s been getting better with every tournament and is seemingly peaking at exactly the right time, advancing into his 12th French Open final for the loss of just one set (surprisingly against David Goffin) and earning a first win over Roger Federer in five years as he crushed his big rival in straight sets in the semi-finals.

By contrast, Thiem has taken the scenic route to his second straight French Open final, surviving a trio of tricky four-set matches across his first three rounds before snapping Novak Djokovic’s 26-match winning streak at Grand Slams, taking out the World No. 1 in five sets in a semi-final that spanned over two days because of rain.

A long five-setter across two days before facing the best clay-courter in history isn’t exactly the most ideal preparation for Thiem, but the Austrian has been playing some career-best tennis in 2019, winning his first Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells, and has nothing to lose. Could we see Nadal vanquished at Roland Garros for just the third time in his career? Or will Nadal add an astonishing 12th French Open title to his trophy cabinet and further establish himself (not that he needs to at all) as the greatest clay-courter this sport has ever seen?

Whatever the case, Nadal and Thiem promise to bring Roland Garros 2019 to a dramatic climax on Sunday - read on below as we go over all the numbers, stats and quotes ahead of the final.

Quotes ahead of French Open final

Rafael Nadal

“I hope to have a lot of time to think about it when I stop my tennis career,” Nadal said in regards to his extraordinary record at Roland Garros. “Today is about just enjoying the day today. Of course, it has been a very important achievement for me. Being in final of Roland Garros again means a lot again and especially coming back from not an easy situation after all the injuries that I’ve had.”
“What I have to do today is not think about if it's incredible, because it's a real thing for me. Even if it's something I never dreamed about five, six, eight years ago, it's happening today. And my goal is just try to keep going. It’s not about having excess ambition, but it’s about just trying to keep enjoying the things that I am doing.”

Dominic Thiem

"To play Rafa here on this court, is always the ultimate challenge, one of the toughest challenges sports in general give," said Thiem. "I played a really good match against him in Barcelona. It was six weeks ago. So, of course, I [will] try to do similar even though it's way tougher to play him here.
"But I [will] try to keep all the positive emotions I'm having right now, I'm having from this amazing match today, and go with a really positive mind into the match tomorrow, and then we'll see."
