Berrettini, who only claimed his first tour-level win in 2018, has put together an incredible rise over the last two seasons, sky-rocketing into the top 10 following an impressive 2019 that has yielded two ATP titles in Budapest and Stuttgart, along with a runner-up finish in Munich and a marquee run to his first Grand Slam semi-final at the U.S. Open.

With back-to-back semi-finals in Shanghai and Vienna, Berrettini cracked the top 10 for the first time, and after Gael Monfils lost to Denis Shapovalov in the Rolex Paris Masters quarter-finals, he is the first Italian to qualify in singles for the Nitto ATP Finals since Corrado Barazzutti in 1978.

"I would have never thought I could qualify a couple of months ago," said Berrettini. "I am just so happy to be among the Top 8 in London. It is a great satisfaction and the reward for the superb work that my team, my family and of course myself have put in place this whole year.”

Berrettini joins Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev in the prestigious season-ending field in London.

Eight different countries are represented, with Berrettini, Medvedev and Tsitsipas making their debut appearances at the ATP Finals.

Along with defending champion Alexander Zverev, it marks the first time four players aged 23 and under will be playing at the ATP Finals since 2009.

“This year looks to be one of the most interesting player fields in the history of the tournament with the established superstars of the ATP Tour challenged by the next generation,” said ATP President Chris Kermode.
“The longevity of the Tour’s global icons combined with the impressive rise of the future stars of our sport over the past couple of years has made for a fascinating spectacle. It’s all to play for in London.”

The doubles field for the 2019 ATP Finals is also confirmed, led by Wimbledon and US Open champions Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah, who have already secured the year-end No. 1 ranking.

Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo, Raven Klaasen and Michael Venus, Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies, Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau, Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut, and Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek complete the line-up in London.

The 2019 ATP Finals is live from the O2 Arena in London between November 10-17. The draw will be conducted on Tuesday November 5.
