Greek young gun, continues his quest for the Stockholm title on Friday when he takes on German veteran, Philipp Kohlschreiber in the semi-finals.

World number 16, Tsitsipas is still seeking his first career title, but a superb season has already produced finals at the ATP 500 meet in Barcelona and the Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto. He lost both matches to world number one, Rafael Nadal.

After a brief spell of poor results between Cincinnati and Shenzhen, during which he won just one of five matches, Tsitsipas has picked up the pace again in recent weeks, reaching the quarter finals in Tokyo and the third round in Shanghai before his latest run in Moscow.

The 20-year-old Greek was made to work hard for his opening round victory over John Millman, but he came through 6-4 3-6 6-3. He didn't help himself by serving below 50% all through the match, but he still had enough to outlast Millman and move on to his tenth quarter final of the season.

Tsitsipas broke in the opening game of the match, and maintained that advantage through the first set, saving all four break points he faced. The young gun broke again in the first game of the second set, but US Open quarter finalist, Millman is never one to fall away, and he finally had his way in the next game, striking back immediately to restore parity in the set. Millman broke again in the sixth game, and went on to take the set, dragging the match into a decider. The first seven games of a tight final set went with serve, but Tsitsipas scored the decisive break for 5-3 before serving out the match to love. It wasn't his most convincing performance of the season, but he will tick that one away, and move on to the next one, as he continues his hunt for a first career title.

That next one is a quarter final against the wily Kohlschreiber.

Kohlschreiber may be 35, but the German remains a very dangerous presence in these ATP draws, as he has once again shown this week.

Kohlschreiber has already taken down one Next Gen star in Stockholm, defeating a battling Alex De Minaur in a dramatic first-round contest. The German veteran failed to convert four match points when his young opponent served at 3-5 in the second set, and he got broken while serving for the match at 5-4 in the next game, before dropping the set on a tie break. The German recovered from that disappointment to pull off a 7-6 6-7 6-1 victory. There was even more drama in Kohlschreiber's second round victory over Fernando Verdasco, as the world number 35 saved five match points in the second set before digging out a 4-6 7-6 7-5 victory over the Spaniard.

Kohlschreiber is looking to reach his second semi-final of the season, with his only other trip to the last four this year coming in Munich, where he made the final. His only other quarter final was a big one at Indian Wells, while he also got to the fourth round at the US Open, after beating Alexander Zverev in the third round.

Playing his first tournament since that US Open performance, Kohlschreiber has been put through the ringer in Stockholm this week, as he has needed well over five hours to get through matches against De Minaur and Verdasco. Good job he had been out for a month before competing in Stockholm! Will fatigue be a factor when he plays Tsitsipas for the second time on Friday?

It should be a good contest between two players with flashy single-handed backhands. (Is a single-handed backhand ever not flashy?!). Kohlschreiber has got more variety than his Greek opponent, but has he got enough in the tank to last through what could be another long one?

Tsitsipas won their only previous meeting in Dubai earlier this year, and given the mileage his opponent has already been through this week, the young gun will likely repeat that result in Friday's Stockholm meeting.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Philipp Kohlschreiber is live from Stockholm on Friday, 19 October from 4:00pm local time/ 3:00pm BST
