Stefanos Tsitsipas seeks his seventh straight win, and a spot in the semi-finals of the Swiss Indoor in Basel when he takes on Russia's Daniil Medvedev on Friday.

Tsitsipas won his maiden ATP World Tour title in Stockholm last week, and he has carried that form and confidence into Basel, where he has recorded two very clinical wins to take his place in the quarter finals.

The Greek took out Jeremy Chardy 6-2 7-6 in the first round before dismissing Germany's Peter Gojowczyk 6-3 6-1 in the second round. Playing with the swagger and self-assurance of an ATP World Tour champion, Tsitsipas banged down 10 aces against Gojowczyk, dropping just five points on his first serve. The world number 16 also saved the two break points he faced, converting four of the six opportunities he carved out on his opponent’s serve.

Tsitsipas' rise in 2018 has been dramatic, with the 20-year-old jumping from 91st in the rankings at the start of the year to his current mark of 16, having peaked at No. 15 in the world in August.

Prior to his title-run in Stockholm, Tsitsipas had made two previous finals, in Barcelona and Toronto, but he had the bad luck of running into Rafael Nadal in both finals, and ended up losing the two, not without a fight though. After being outclassed for most of that final in Toronto, Tsitsipas suddenly found the form that had taken him past four top-ten players in a sensational week, and made life very uncomfortable for the world number one in the second set. He fought back from a break down in the set to force a tie break, but he ultimately fell short, losing 6-2 7-6 to the world number one.

A fantastic year has also yielded semi-finals in Estoril and Washington, and a best Grand Slam perfoemance at Wimbledon, where he got to the fourth round before falling to John Isner.

Can he maintain his current winning streak when he takes on Medvedev in Basel on Friday?

Medvedev has also found some very good form in recent months- since the middle of August, he has won titles in Winston-Salem and Tokyo, reached the semi-finals in Moscow and quarter finals in St. Petersburg.

Overall, he has been on a 20-4 run since the start of Winston-Salem. Of Medvedev's four losses, two have been against top ten players, Roger Federer and Dominic Thiem, and the other half against fellow young guns, Karen Khachanov and Borna Coric.

The Russian began the season with a bang, winning his first ATP World Tour title in Sydney in his first tour-level tournament of the season, but he made just one quarter final in his next 17 tournaments, and at a point, lost five straight matches between Monte Carlo and Roland Garros. His ranking inevitably dropped as a result- he was down at 67th in the world at the start of July- but his form has undergone a dramatic transformation in the last three months, Medvedev has naturally moved up in the rankings, breaking into the top 20 just before the Swiss Indoors.

The Russian is yet to drop a set in Basel, beating Maximilian Marterer 6-3 7-5 in the first round before taking down Italian veteran, Andreas Seppi to get into the quarters, where he'll take on Stefanos Tsitsipas for a third time this season.

Medvedev has won their two career meetings, in Miami and the US Open. He has certainly got weapons that can hurt Tsitsipas; he serves well, hits the ball very flat and hard, and is particularly dangerous off the backhand side. Can the Russian maintain his 100% record against Tsitsipas or will the Greek snatch his first win against the Russian and extend his winning streak to 7?
