The men's draw for the 2019 US Open draw has been released and shows defending champion Novak Djokovic and five-time winner Roger Federer on a collision course in New York.

Djokovic and Federer last met in the final oi Wimbledon in July, when Djokovic saved two championship points before defeating Federer in five sets.

Second seed Rafael Nadal will open against John Millman, who defeated Federer in the round of 16 at the US Open 12 months ago.

Top seed Djokovic, who currently holds the US Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon titles, will open against Roberto Carballes Baena and could face Sam Querrey - one of a small number of men to have beaten him at a Grand Slam in recent years, having done so at Wimbledon in 2016 - in the second round.

Stan Wawrinka, the 2016 US Open champion, and former finalist Kevin Anderson are among potential fourth-round opponents and he could face Daniil Medvedev, the new world no. 5 who defeated him at the Cincinnati Masters and went on to claim the title, in the quarterfinals.

Roger Federer is a five-time US Open champion
Federer, seeded third for the US Open, could have been drawn in either Djokovic or Nadal's half but has landed in Djokovic's, meaning that if he and Nadal were to meet at the US Open for the first time in their storied rivalry, it could only be in the final.

Up until the semifinals, however, Federer's draw looks relatively smooth. The Swiss star, who won the US Open five years in a row between 2004 and 2008 but has not claimed the title since and only reached the final twice in the subsequent decade, opens against a qualifier and could face Australian Open semifinalist Lucas Pouille in the third round. Cincinnati Masters runner-up David Goffin and Argentina's clay-court-loving Guido Pella are potential fourth-round opponents, and the 38-year-old Federer could face 2014 US Open runner-up Kei Nishikori in the quarterfinals.

At the bottom of the draw, Nadal - a three-time US Open champion like Djokovic - could face Fernando Verdasco in the third round and 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic or big-serving American John Isner in the round of 16. Sixth seed Alexander Zverev is his projected quarterfinal opponent, but Zverev has never made the quarterfinals of a major outside of the French Open. Zverev could face rising Russian Karen Khachanov in the last 16.

The fourth seed, two-time French Open runner-up Dominic Thiem, made the quarterfinals of the US Open for the first time last year and will hope to do so again despite poor preparation for the fourth and final major of the year. The Austrian will open against Thomas Fabbiano of Italy, who knocked Stefanos Tsitsipas out of Wimbledon in the first round, and could face either Gael Monfils or the winner of a first-round clash between Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime - facing off in the first round of the US Open for the second consecutive year - in the fourth round.

Sixth seed Tsitsipas has got perhaps the toughest draw. The Australian Open semifinalist will face Andrey Rublev, the Russian talent who is a former US Open quarterfinalist and who recently stunned Federer in Cincinnati, in the first round. Washington, D.C. champion Nick Kyrgios could await in the third round and tenth seed Roberto Bautista Agut, a Wimbledon semifinalist, is among his potential fourth-round opponents.

Here are the full projected men's US Open quarterfinals:

(1) Novak Djokovic vs Daniil Medvedev (5)
(3) Roger Federer vs Kei Nishikori (7)
(8) Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Dominic Thiem (4)
(6) Alexander Zverev vs Rafael Nadal (2)

Main-draw play starts at the US Open on Monday 26 August at 11am local/4pm BST.
