Magda Linette is on the cusp of a top 50 debut after surging to her maiden WTA title at the inaugural Bronx Open on Saturday.

Linette put together a dream week in the Bronx, coming all the way from qualifying to win eight matches and secure her first WTA title, coming from a set down to defeat Italian powerhouse Camila Giorgi in the final.

Linette, who has earlier beaten ninth seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 10th seed Karolina Muchova and fifth seed Katerina Siniakova, overcame Giorgi by a 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 scoreline to emerge triumphant at the first ever Bronx Open.

It was a glorious day for Poland, with ATP rising star Hubert Hurkacz winning the Winston-Salem title and veteran Lukasz Kubot teaming up with Marcelo Melo to win the doubles crown at the same tournament.

Linette was ecstatic to secure her maiden piece of WTA silverware after coming through three rounds of qualifying just to make the main draw.

"It means the world to us," Linette told reporters after the win. "I’m 27, so it’s not super super young. So it means really a lot. It gives a lot of boost - you know, for the confidence, and also a reward. Finally, it’s a reward for us, for all the hard work."

Ranked No. 80 at the start of the tournament, Linette rises 27 spots in the latest WTA rankings to move up to a career-high No. 53, eclipsing her previous best mark of No. 55, which she achieved last year.

Meanwhile, Giorgi continued her climb back up the rankings after missing the bulk of the season with wrist and ankle injuries. The Italian, who also made the Citi Open final in Washington earlier in the summer, moves up 10 places to No. 48.

There was also a bit of movement in the top 20, despite the majority of playings skipping this week in order to prepare for the U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows. Aryna Sabalenka drops out of the top 10 and down four spots to No. 13 as her New Haven title points from last year fell off.

Cincinnati champion Madison Keys rises up one spot to No. 9 as a result, while 2017 U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens also climbs back into the top 10.

World No. 1 Naomi Osaka is the top seed at the U.S. Open, which starts today. The Japanese will be attempting to defend a Grand Slam for the first time.
