Angelique Kerber begins her quest to reclaim the No. 1 ranking this week at the Qatar Total Open in Doha, where she will be joined by four fellow top 10 members.

Due to all the Fed Cup action taking place this weekend, there was minimal movement in the WTA rankings, especially inside the top 20.

However there’s sure to a shake-up in the rankings over the next fortnight as Premier tournaments in the Middle East at Doha and Dubai attract the bulk of major stars.

Angelique Kerber, who relinquished the No. 1 ranking after Serena Williams won the Australian Open, will start her mission to return to the top spot when she leads the Qatar Total Open in Doha this week.

Kerber can possibly reclaim the No. 1 ranking if she reaches the final at both Doha and Dubai over the next two weeks.

A new champion is ensured in Doha with 2016 winner and World No. 14 Carla Suarez Navarro forced to withdraw through injury.

With the likes of Kerber, Dominika Cibulkova, Agnieszka Radwanska and Garbine Muguruza in questionable form, it opens the door for No. 3 Karolina Pliskova to win her second title of 2017 and further cement her status as a top five player.

Pliskova and No. 17 compatriot Barbora Strycova will be confident after powering Czech Republic into their ninth straight Fed Cup semi-final this past weekend, as will Switzerland’s World No. 15 Timea Bacsinszky.

The 2017 Qatar Total Open is live between 13-18 February from Doha.
