Did Serena Williams just announce she was 20 weeks pregnant on Snapchat?
23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams may have just made a major announcement.
Williams posted a photo of herself in a swimming costume on Snapchat with the caption '20 weeks', which many news organizations have taken as a pregnancy announcement.
The Snapchat was subsequently deleted and there has been no official confirmation, which hasn't stopped many outlets reporting the news as fact, with some other players and tennis pundits congratulating Williams on the pregnancy.
Williams is due to become world no. 1 once more on Monday 24 April despite having not played since winning her twenty-third Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January, beating sister Venus in the final.
The 35-year-old American withdrew from Indian Wells and Miami due to a right knee injury. She is currently engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.
As recently as 13 April, Williams said she had no immediate plans to get pregnant when she posted on Instagram to congratulate Kelly Rowland on her new book Whoa Baby.
'One of these days I hope to apply this (but for now I'll stick to my dog Chip),' Williams wrote, editing the original post after it sparked speculation from fans.
If Williams is indeed 20 weeks pregnant, it would mean she was pregnant while winning her twenty-third Grand Slam title at the Australian Open - something she did without dropping a set.
Williams would be following in the footsteps of Victoria Azarenka, the former world no. 1 who gave birth to son Leo earlier this year.
