World No. 479 Tara Moore has sensationally pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in tennis history at an ITF event in Sunderland.

Moore, from Great Britain, was on the cusp of receiving the dreaded ‘double bagel’ against French third seed Jessika Ponchet in the opening round of the $25k tournament in Sunderland on Tuesday, falling behind 0-6, 0-5 and 30-40.

However, from there, Moore put together an extraordinary fightback, saving a match point with an overhead that clipped the net and caught the line (already incredible in itself), before clawing her way back into the contest, squeaking out the second set tiebreak and keeping her foot on the pedal to register a memorable 0-6 7-6(7) 6-3 victory.

One point away from an embarrassing defeat turned into easily one of the most insane comebacks tennis - at any level - has ever seen, but according to Moore, it was never in doubt!

Moore’s best result at tour-level came in 2016 when she reached the second round of Wimbledon and came close to knocking out two-time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova, while she reached her career-high ranking of No. 145 the following year.

However, the 26-year-old’s career has hit numerous setbacks over the last two seasons, with Moore suffering from a combination of injury problems and poor form.

Moore has failed to make it to the quarter-finals in 10 ITF events so far this season, but perhaps her magical comeback in Sunderland will be the catalyst to turn her year around?

Moore will face either Germany's Yana Morderger or Romania's Elena-Teodora Cadar in the second round.
