Top-ten star, Kiki Bertens has tied the knot with Dutch tennis coach, Remko de Rijke, just over a year after she announced their engagement.

Bertens posted a picture of the wedding in her Instagram account, with the caption "What a day!!". She has since received many congratulatory messages from her fellow professionals, with Julia Goerges, Elise Mertens, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Kristina Mladenovic among those to send their well wishes to the newly weds.

The wedding caps another quality year for the Dutch star, who finished the WTA season inside the top-ten for the second consecutive year. Bertens claimed her maiden Premier Mandatory title in Madrid, romping to victory without dropping a set, while she also added another title in St. Petersburg to take her career tally to nine.

The 27-year-old made finals in s-Hertogenbosch, Palermo and Zhuhai, while she competed at the season-ending WTA Finals as an alternate, beating world No. 1, Ashleigh Barty before exiting the tournament following an illness-enforced retirement in her final group match against Belinda Bencic.

It was a disappointing ending to a fine season, but the smiling Dutchwoman would not be disheartened, especially with her big day just around the corner! Bertens was in upbeat mood when she chatted about her impending wedding following her Shenzhen exit.

"It [The wedding] is going to be challenging with the dress fitting and stuff like that," she joked. "But they promised everything is going to work out well!" "I have some great planners back at home," the Dutch player continued. "My family did a lot. I think everything is going to be fine. We're just looking forward to a great day with our family and friends.

Bertens also reflected on her season, during which she peaked at a career-high No. 4, and ended at No. 9.

"I've learned so much again this year about myself”.
"My confidence grew a lot I would say after the last year. I'm really proud I'm still in the top 10, which was a goal in the beginning of the season. I knew it was going to be really tough. But I'm still here, so really proud of that."

The Dutchwoman is scheduled to start her 2020 campaign in Brisbane, live from 6-12 January.
