Rising star Dayana Yastremska has announced that Sascha Bajin will be her new coach for the 2020 WTA season.

One of the brightest young stars in women’s tennis, Yastremska parted ways with former coach Olivier Jeunehomme in October and will link up with Bajin for 2020 as she looks to continue her rapid rise up the rankings.

"I am extremely happy, and I am very excited to start our collaboration as it is going to be very interesting and impressive work," Yastremska wrote on social media. "I am confident that he can help me in achieving my ambitions. Super excited for the beginning of our preseason preparation and I am confident that everything works out!"

The first player born in the 2000s to break into the top 100 when she did so in July last year, Yastremska was a Wimbledon junior runner-up in 2016 and ranked as high as No. 6 in the world as a junior that season, but she’s well and truly left that behind as she quickly established herself as one of the best young talents in women’s tennis, winning her maiden WTA title in Hong Kong towards the end of last year as she finished 2018 at No. 60 in the world after starting it at No. 189.

Yastremska won two more WTA titles in Hua Hin and Strasbourg in 2019 and reached the second week of a slam for the first time in advancing to the fourth round of Wimbledon.

The 19-year-old scored wins over the likes of Karolina Pliskova, Johanna Konta, Caroline Wozniacki, Garbiñe Muguruza and Aryna Sabalenka and climbed to a year-end mark of No. 22 in the world, qualifying for the WTA Elite Trophy for the first time.

Bajin has a proven track record on the WTA Tour, spending years as the hitting partner for Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka, before winning the WTA Coach of the Year award in 2018 for his outstanding work with Naomi Osaka.

Bajin guided Osaka to a pair of Grand Slam titles at the U.S. Open and Australian Open, and after their surprise split in February, helped improve Kristina Mladenovic’s ranking from No. 67 to No. 40, with the Frenchwoman also going on to spearhead her nation to Fed Cup glory over Australia.
