Indian Wells Masters 2020 Tournament Schedule
The 2020 BNP Paribas has been postponed indefinitely due to public health fears after a confirmed case of coronavirus was identified in the Coachella Valley, near where the tournament is played in the Californian desert.
Riverside County, where Indian Wells is located, declared a public health emergency. After emergency player council meetings were held on Sunday 8 March, tournament organizers released a statement announcing that the event would take place.
The statement quoted Dr David Agus:
‘There is too great a risk, at this time, to the public health of the Riverside County area in holding a large gathering of this size. It is not in the public interest of fans, players and neighbouring areas for this tournament to proceed. We all have to join together to protect the community from the coronavirus outbreak.’
Tournament director Tommy Haas said that the organizers were open to the possibility of playing the tournament on a different date, but it is difficult to see where such a date would be found in the crowded tennis calendar.
Fans that purchased tickets to Indian Wells can request a refund for the 2020 tournament or obtain credits for the 2021 edition, which is due to take place from 8-21 March 2021.
It will be the second year since the tournament’s inception in 1974 that there is no Indian Wells champion; the tournament was cancelled at the semifinal stage in 1980 due to rain.

The first eight days of the tournament consist of a day session starting at 11am local/6pm GMT and a night session beginning at 6pm local/1am GMT. On Thursday 18 and Friday 19 March there are only night sessions. On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 March there are only day sessions.
Indian Wells Masters Players 2021
The first Masters 1000 Series event of the year, the Indian Wells Masters attracts an incredible player field – especially because it is one of only two Masters events, the other being Miami, to feature a 96-player draw (128 draw slots, the same number as a Grand Slam, with first-round byes for the 32 seeds).
A player therefore has to win six or, if unseeded, seven matches to claim the Indian Wells Masters title.
There are currently no details on players who are confirmed to appear at the 2021 Indian Wells Masters, but the tournament can be expected to feature the world’s top stars, including five-time champions Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, three-time winner Rafael Nadal and former winners Dominic Thiem and Juan Martin del Potro.
