Murray v Ruud live stream and preview | 2021 San Diego Open

Andy Murray faces another tough early round test when he takes on second seed Casper Ruud in the Last 16 of the 2021 San Diego Open.

Former world number one Murray continues to prove a formidable test for the top ranked players and affirmed that at the Moselle Open last week when he defeated Ugo Humbert and Vasek Pospisil before losing out to eventual champion Hubert Hurkacz in the Quarter-Finals.

Despite a surgically repaired hip, 34-year-old Murray remains agile around the court and will be determined to improve on his current world ranking of 109.

The two-time Wimbledon champion received a wildcard entry into the San Diego Open and was due to face Kei Nishikori in Round One, but the Japanese star withdrew just hours before the match, meaning Murray took on Denis Kudla and prevailed in straight sets.

Murray now faces an opponent 12 years his junior and ranked world number ten, having enjoyed tournament wins on clay in Geneva, Bastad, Gstaad and Kitzbuhel.

Ruud, who turned pro in 2015, is yet to surpass the Fourth Round stage of a Grand Slam but has been a regular at the back end of ATP events in recent years.

This will be the first competitive meeting between the two players, and current form suggests Norwegian star Ruud may just have too much for the veteran Brit.

Murray v Ruud is available to watch via a live stream on desktop, mobile or tablet devices from approximately 1.30am BST.

A battle of the Brits sees Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans go head-to-head in the Last 16 of the 2021 San Diego Open on Thursday.

The top two men’s British stars collide at the Barnes Stadium for what will be only their second competitive meeting to date.

World number 28 Norrie prevailed by three sets to one when they met in First Round of the Australian Open earlier this year, having only turned pro in 2017 – eleven years later than Evans.

Norrie has equalled his best performance in a Grand Slam on three occasions this season, reaching the Third Round of the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon.

He picked up his maiden ATP Tour title on hard court at the Los Cabos Open in Mexico in July and began his campaign here in San Diego with a straight sets win over Germany’s Dominik Koepfer.

Evans, meanwhile, overcame two-time Grand Slam finalist Kevin Anderson 7-6, 7-5 and has also enjoyed a fine season so far, recently reaching the Last 16 of the US Open.

Evans also claimed his first ATP title earlier this year at the Murray River Open in Melbourne and is enjoying a career-high ranking of 22.

The 31-year-old had previously never been ranked inside the world’s top 100 prior to 2021, but like Norrie, has made significant strides courtesy of his hard court performances.

We expect a close-run contest between these two in-form stars and are opting for over 22.5 total games at 10/11 with Bet365.

Norrie v Evans is available to watch via a live stream on desktop, mobile or tablet devices from approximately 7.30pm BST.

Andy Murray aims to continue his resurgent run of form when he faces Kei Nishikori in the opening round of the 2021 San Diego Open.

Arguably the stand-out tie of the First Round sees the two wildcards go head-to-head for the right to take on second seed Casper Ruud in Round Two.

Former world number one Murray continues to prove a formidable test for the top ranked players and proved as much at the Moselle Open last week when he defeated Ugo Humbert and Vasek Pospisil before losing out to eventual champion Hubert Hurkacz in the Quarter-Finals.

Despite a surgically repaired hip, 34-year-old Murray remains agile around the court and will be determined to improve on his current world ranking of 109.

Nishikori is another player vying to reclaim his former glories, with the Japanese star having reached the final of the US Open in 2014, as well as a further nine Grand Slam Quarter-Finals.

Now ranked 52, Nishikori has also suffered from multiple injury setbacks but remains a dangerous operator on all surfaces.

His best run in a Grand Slam this season came at the French Open – where he reached the Fourth Round before eventually losing out to Alexander Zverev.

Murray has dominated the head-to-heads, winning nine of their previous 11 meetings, most recently in the Quarter-Finals at Roland Garros in 2017.

Expect a relatively close-run contest between these two stalwarts, with over 22.5 total games a sensible play at 10/11 with Bet365.

Nishikori v Murray is available to watch via a live stream on desktop, mobile or tablet devices from approximately 1.30am BST.
