The Pole is having a very average season so far. Indeed, his last title on tour was in Halle last year. Hurkacz has made just one final since then and lost that one.

However, we are back on the grass and Hurkacz has a good grass court pedigree. He is a former Wimbledon semi-finalist and 2022 Halle champion. If his serve can fire as it did last time then he will be very difficult to stop.

The American has an explosive game and an excellent serve. In grass court tennis this can take you very far indeed but we are still waiting for Nakashima to have that big breakthrough.

That could easily come this week as he finds himself in with a section who’s high seed is Daniil Medvedev. Consecutive first match departures at the French Open and s-Hertogenbosch have certainly splintered the aura that Medvedev had been carrying around with him throughout 2023.

The bottom half of the draw contains 16 players that I struggle to see winning for various reasons. One of them will overcome whatever issues that they have and come through that section to make the final, that is for sure, it is working out who that might be that is the tricky part.
