ATP Lyon Tips & Preview | Our Picks For This Week’s Tennis

Andy Watson in Tennis Betting Tips 22 May 2023

The field at Lyon is missing the big names, as one would expect in the week before a Grand Slam, but someone could emerge from the field to play themselves into form and take a valuable title.

This tournament has been played since 2017 and, as yet, no-one has successfully defended the crown. Cameron Norrie is here to try and do that, and, actually, has a really good chance of doing so.

With this tournament being in France there is less concern of players not wanting to go too deep, as the travel to Paris is not difficult. The conditions of the play here is somewhat similar as well.

The first three editions of ATP Lyon saw a Frenchman make the final, but this trend has not followed for the last couple of tournaments. Nevertheless, there is always great support for home players in the French tournaments and is an angle worth considering.

ATP Lyon Betting Tips

Cameron Norrie 1.5pt @ 7/2 with Bet365

Norrie has a great record at this tournament. He is defending champion, was the beaten finalist in 2021 and made the semis in 2019. He is also in the position where he probably needs more match practice on the clay before Roland Garros, and yet he isn’t one that would expect to go all the way in Paris and would be happy to defend his 250pts here.

I would feel more comfortable if he didn’t have Francisco Cerundolo in his half, I think one of those two will win from the bottom half but Norrie beat Cerundolo comfortably here last year, which gives me confidence.

Arthur Rinderknech 0.25pt @ 50/1 with Bet365

This is a little dart at taking advantage of the French crowd. Rinderknech has not been in good form in 2023 but has 4 clay court Challenger titles to his name, including as recently as 2022. He is also likely to be fully focused on this week and will not want to give up the chance of a title here.

ATP Lyon Draw

The draw in Lyon is a 28-player draw, with 8 seeds. The top four seeds have received byes into the second round.
