It’s been a mixed year for Zverev, who will be hoping to have a similar impact on the US Open as he has in recent times. 2023 started with a disappointing second round exit for the German, with a four set loss to Michael Mmoh sending him home. He was able to bounce back at the French Open, however, reaching the semi-final before being beaten by Casper Ruud in straight sets. It was the third year in a row that Zverev had lost out at the semi-final stage.
Wimbledon proved to be another disappointment for the 26-year-old, with a third round exit leaving him underwhelmed in SW19, once again. It was a straight set defeat to Matteo Berrettini that sent Zverev home this time round and his attention will turn to the US Open, where he’ll be hoping to secure his first Grand Slam title.
