Dan Evans looks to snap his losing streak when he locks horns with Dominik Koepfer in the Atlanta Open second round on Thursday.
The British number two has endured a fairly inconsistent 2023 thus far. Indeed, he has reached the semi-finals in Barcelona and Marrakech, but also suffered 11 first-round defeats.
Evans has been unable to build on the momentum of his run in Barcelona, losing each of his subsequent five matches, and the third seed will be desperate to put things right here.
The omens do not appear promising for the world number 30, who is in the same half of the draw as top seed Taylor Fritz, while this tournament has only been won by American or Australian players since its inception in 2010.
Although, Evans will look to use his tour-level experience to his advantage when he faces Koepfer, who is playing only his third such match of the season.
Nevertheless, the world number 88 does have momentum heading into the clash.
A Challenger Tour winner in Mexico City and Turin, Koepfer came from behind to defeat the powerful John Isner in the opening round here.
And the German will certainly fancy his chances of claiming another notable scalp in an out-of-form Evans.
The winner of this match faces an American quarter-final opponent in either eighth seed J.J. Wolf or Maxime Cressy.
Play gets underway at around 6.30pm BST on Thursday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Stadium Court.
