Andy Murray and Cameron Norrie collide in a battle of the Brits at the 2022 Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati on Wednesday.

Only the second ever meeting between the pair will see them face off on hard court with a place in the Third Round of the ATP 1000 event up for grabs.

Former world number one Murray has made immense strides after career-threatening hip surgery a few years ago, returning to the world’s top 50 courtesy of a series of strong runs in recent months.

Murray has progressed to two finals this year, most recently on his beloved grass surface in Stuttgart, narrowly losing out to Matteo Berrettini.

Murray was beaten in the opening round in Washington a fortnight ago before losing out to in-form Taylor Fritz at the same stage of last week’s Canadian Open.

He began his campaign this week with a battling three-set victory over three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, recovering from 2-0 down in the decider.

Norrie has enjoyed a superb season so far, with the highlight being a run to the Semi-Finals of Wimbledon – marking his best performance in a Grand Slam to date.

The British number one, who claimed glory at Indian Wells last year, had previously failed to register a main draw win at the Cincinnati Masters in three attempts prior to his First Round success over Holger Rune earlier this week in a two-and-a-half hour epic.

Norrie, who moved to a career-high ranking of world number ten earlier this year, is out to avenge his defeat to Murray in Beijing three years ago.

Either fifth seed Casper Ruud or 19-year-old wildcard Ben Shelton will await the winner in the Third Round on Thursday.
