Rafael Nadal v Borna Coric live stream | Western & Southern Open preview

Rafael Nadal marks his return to action with a clash against Borna Coric in the Second Round of the 2022 Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati on Wednesday.

Nadal saw his hopes of a first seasonal Grand Slam end in agonising fashion at Wimbledon as he was forced to withdraw prior to his Semi-Final clash with Nick Kyrgios due to an abdominal muscle tear.

Following six weeks of recuperation, the world number three will make his return on hard court in Cincinnati – an event he has won on just one occasion (2013).

It is unclear as to whether Nadal will be back to anything near full fitness, but he has won 20 of his last 21 matches on hard court, winning the Australian Open and finishing runner-up at Indian Wells.

The 36-year-old is in contention for the ATP number one ranking, but must win the title this weekend and hope Daniil Medvedev fails to reach the Quarter-Final stage.

Croatia’s Coric pulled off an impressive win over world number 33 Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets on Tuesday to secure only his second hard court win of the season.

World ranked 152, Coric was a quarter-finalist in the 2020 US Open has incredibly won two of his four previous meetings with Nadal, including the Round of 16 here in Cincinnati in 2016.

Either 15th seed Roberto Bautista Agut or Marcos Giron will await the winner in the Third Round on Thursday.
