In-form Andrey Rublev will take on Daniel Evans in the opening round of the Dubai Championships 2022 on Tuesday at 15.00pm (UK Time).
Daniel Evans had a strong start to the season as he reached the semifinals in Sydney where he lost in three sets against Karatsev. This has been followed by a couple of inconsistent showings at the Australian Open and Doha. Although his defeat against Auger Aliassime at the Australian Open is somehow understandable, his recent loss against a struggling Davidovich Fokina in Doha is not.
The only positive thing is that the Brit has won three of a total of five meetings with Rublev, with the most recent one being in Cincinnati in 2020.
Meanwhile, Andrey Rublev has won nine of his 11 matches on hard courts so far this season. In addition, the Russian comes into this clash full of confidence after an excellent week in Marseille. Rublev has won both singles and doubles titles and he is now aiming for a similar performance here in Dubai.
Rublev has dropped a set in the opening three rounds in Marseille before pulling past Auger-Aliassime in straight sets in the final. It was an act of sweet revenge for Rublev, as he lost the same Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals of Rotterdam just a week before that.
Three of the five meetings between these two players have seen over 2.5 sets. We’re expecting a similar outcome here, so our prediction is Over 2.5 sets at odds of 11/8 with Bet365.
