Andy Murray will face 4th seed Jannik Sinner on Wednesday at 10.00am (UK Time) in the 2nd round of the 2022 Dubai Tennis Championships.
After 2 hours and 51 minutes, Andy Murray has finally managed to defeat Australian qualifier, Christopher O’Connell, in the opening round here in Dubai. Andy is yet to get back to his best level since returning from hip surgery, but he looked decent in this early part of the season.
The Brit has only lost five of his 13 matches on hard courts so far this season, with the best result being a runner-up finish in Sydney. Murray has reached at least the quarterfinal in five of his previous six Dubai Tennis Championships campaigns.
Jannik Sinner, on the flip side, has lost just one of nine matches on hard courts this year. He won all three matches at the ATP Cup, but unfortunately, Italy wasn’t able to qualify for the semifinals of the competition. He continued his impressive form with a quarter-final appearance at the Australian Open where he lost in straight sets against Tsitsipas.
Here in Dubai, Sinner faced Davidovich Fokina in the opening round and needed a bit of luck to book his place in the second round. Sinner has lost the first set and was just two return points away from losing the second set in a tiebreak.
