Daniil Medvedev resumes his quest for a sixth title of the season against Roberto Bautista Agut in the Halle Open quarter-finals on Friday.

The top seed has been one of the players of the campaign so far – triumphing in Miami, Rome, Dubai, Rotterdam and Doha – with no other player collecting more silverware on the ATP Tour.

And he is aiming to go one better in Halle this year, having finished as runner-up to Hubert Hurkacz here 12 months, and claim only the second grass-court title of his career.

Medvedev, who triumphed on surface in Mallorca two years ago, arrived this week off the back of successive first-round exits at the French Open, where he lost to Brazilian debutant Thiago Seyboth Wild, and ‘s-Hertogenbosch, but ended the losing streak with victories over Marcos Giron and Laslo Djere.

The former US Open champion is subsequently set for a repeat of his quarter-final showdown with Bautista Agut from 12 months ago, in which he prevailed in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

In fact, six of the seven meetings between the players have been in the last eight of the respective events, though the Spaniard has come out on top in four of their previous six encounters.

The world number 23 has enjoyed a timely upturn in fortunes ahead of Wimbledon, where he was a semi-finalist in 2019.

Indeed, he is yet to drop a set in his wins over Andrea Vavassori to Brandon Nakashima to advance to only his second quarter-final of the season, and first since reaching the championship match in Adelaide back in January.

The winner of this match will play either Andrey Rublev or Tallon Griekspoor in the Halle Open semi-finals.

Play gets underway at 3pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of three sets on OWL Arena at Gerry Weber Stadion.
