ATP Metz Tournament Preview & Outright Betting Tips
It is the final week of the regular season on the ATP Tour. The Moselle Open in Metz represents the final opportunity for many players to win a tournament and get some ranking points until 2024.
The Moselle Open has had a heavy Gallic flavour to it in terms of the champions list, as well as the venue. However, as French men’s tennis has suffered a decline at the very top level, so has their grip on this tournament.
There has been no French finalist since 2019, when Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won his fourth Moselle Open. However, between Tsonga, Gilles Simon, Lucas Pouille, and Gael Monfils the French had won 9 in 11 ATP Metz tournaments.
Since the return from lockdown Hubert Hurkacz and Lorenzo Sonego have been champions in very similar finals, winning a tiebreak and then a more straightforward second set.
Keys To Success at ATP Metz
Being French could still be a help here, the record speaks for itself, and with Ugo Humbert in the field there is every chance of a French winner again, he is the favourite for the tournament with the bookmakers.
Again, at this stage of the season, all of the tour events are on indoor hard surfaces. So the first port of call when trying to decipher the winner of the event should be to look into players’ record in such conditions. The number of tiebreaks in the ATP Metz final history tells us all we need to know about the speed of the surface, holds of serve may come a little easier here, and so tiebreak record should also come into play.

ATP Metz Betting Tips
Botic van de Zandschulp 1pt EW @ 12/1 with Bet365
The Dutchman has a pretty fine record indoors, and has good recent form as well, winning four in a row in Paris, including Adrian Mannarino and Tommy Paul. After somehow losing the final in Munich in April after having multiple match points, it has taken him a while to come back from that. If recent form is anything to go on though, van de Zandschulp has some of the best form in the field.
Dominic Thiem 0.5pt EW @ 18/1 with Bet365
There have been growing signs of revival for Thiem. The excellent victory over Stan Wawrinka in Paris was good, and though he was outclassed by Rune in the next round, there is no-one of Rune’s level in this field. Thiem has made it to a final this year, in Kitzbuhel, so there is precedent for a deep run in Thiem’s recent past.
