Andy Murray and Ugo Humbert will square off in the opening round of the Metz Open 2021, with both looking to get back to winning ways.
Murray’s best results since coming back from retirement were on hard courts. He has won his first title since 2017 in Antwerp two years ago, and recently finished as runner-up to Ilya Marchenko in Biella Challenger.
His form over the past month reads three victories and four defeats in seven matches. He suffered second-round exits in Cincinnati, Winston-Salem, and Rennes, as well as a first-round loss against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the US Open.
Meanwhile, Humbert had an awful run on the North American hard court swing. The Frenchman has lost three of his four matches played in the US, which includes a disappointing loss in five sets against Gojowczyk at the US Open 2021.
The good news is that Humbert has reached at least the Quarter-Final stage in four of his last five outings on indoor hard courts.
Both players have been in poor shape lately, so we expect a cagey contest with Over 2.5 Sets at odds of 5/4 with Bet365.
