ATP Montpellier Betting Tips and Predictions: Our Picks For This Week’s Tennis

Andy Watson in ATP Tour 07 Feb 2023

Most people will believe it’s a bit chilly for tennis in Europe. Luckily they have put the heating on in Montpellier for an indoor tournament that has one of the brightest rising stars in the field.

ATP Montpellier is played on an indoor hard court where conditions will be predictable and pretty quick. We are likely to see shorter points than average and looking at the list of previous champions, it is handy to either be French or have a big, powerful serve.

That said, there hasn’t been a French champion here since 2020 when Gael Monfils rode his top seeding all the way to the title. Richard Gasquet has won here three times, equal with Monfils, and is in the draw, as is defending champion Alexander Bublik.

However, the number one seed is the exciting Dane, Holger Rune.

ATP Montpellier Betting Tips

The seeded players look very strong here but there are a couple of outsiders that might be able to get the better of them in these conditions and represent value.

Benjamin Bonzi 0.25pt @ 22/1 (Bet365)

Bonzi has yet to win a title on the ATP Tour but is edging ever closer. Now ranked inside the world top 50 with the French #1 ranking in his sights, there are plenty of motivating factors for Bonzi this week. But he also carries the necessary weapons with a killer first serve and the ability off the ground to back that up.

Alexander Bublik 0.25pt @ 33/1 (Bet365)

Bublik is always a tricky one to judge. His talent is never in question but his application often is. However, he is defending his title and his ranking points, without which he would be struggling on the edge of the top 100. He served ridiculously well to win the title here last year, beating Alexander Zverev in the final, and he is simply too big a price this week.

The Main Draw

Montpellier is a 28-man draw with 8 seeded players. The top four seeds all receive a bye to the second round. The qualifiers will be finalised on Monday.
