The highlight of the Golden Swing has arrived as the players move on to Brazil and an ATP500 tournament in Rio de Janeiro.
ATP Rio is played on a typically slow red clay court where conditions suit a patient game style. The tennis will be low on aces but high on attrition, which makes it suitable for a player at full fitness and preferably with some recent clay court tennis in the bank.
Carlos Alcaraz is top seed, defending champion and also comes off the back of a title in his first tournament back on the main tour last week in Buenos Aires, he is going for the South American capital double here. The past titles have been divided out fairly evenly between European raiders and home heroes with Cristian Garin, Diego Schwartzman, and Pablo Cuevas showing up for the South Americans, but Laslo Djere, Dominic Thiem and David Ferrer all winning recently for the Europeans.
ATP Rio is just one of three ATP Tour events this week. You can read our tips for ATP Doha and ATP Marseille on site. The WTA tour is covered as well, with the famous grid analysis for WTA Dubai and also tips for WTA Merida.
ATP Rio Betting Tips
This is a tough tournament to tip in because Carlos Alcaraz is the obvious winner. However, he is 8/11 and coming off the back of a title last week in his first week back off a long-ish injury lay-off. It is worth taking Alcaraz on from the other side of the draw and playing each way as we get a payout on these players making the final.
Cameron Norrie 1pt EW @ 17/2 (Bet365)
The obvious shout is Cam Norrie. The Brit faced Alcaraz in the Buenos Aires final last week and the each way part of this bet pays 4.5/1, which is a good price about him reaching the final from his section of the draw. It is always tricky on the clay against the South Americans, but Norrie has proven his credentials in the Davis Cup and then again last week in Argentina.
Francisco Cerundolo 0.25pt EW @ 22/1 (Bet365)
We will have another stab with Francisco Cerundolo. The Argentine but up a better showing in Buenos Aires last week getting to the quarter-finals and was a semi-finalist at Rio last year. He needs to pick up some big points in this swing to protect his ranking so he should be well up for this week with more ranking points up for grabs.
The Main Draw
ATP Rio is an ATP500 tournament with a 32-man draw with 8 seeded players.
