Novak Djokovic and Cameron Norrie go head to head in a mouth-watering Italian Open Fourth Round tie on Tuesday.
A place in the quarter-finals is up for grabs at Foro Italico in Rome, where Djokovic and Norrie collide in their first meeting since last year’s Wimbledon semi-finals.
Djokovic prevailed in four sets at SW19 – making it two wins from two in the head-to-head series – and will be confident of prevailing once more in the Italian capital, where he has never failed to reach the quarter-finals in his 17 previous appearances.
The six-time champion has already triumphed at the Australian Open and Adelaide this season, but arrived for this event having lost three of his five most recent matches.
Although, the Serb has stopped the rot with victories over Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Grigor Dimitrov so far this fortnight, albeit he was forced to endure a first-set tiebreak in his first match and a deciding set in the next.
Nevertheless, it is now that he will be looking to start firing in his quest to close the gap on Rafael Nadal’s record tally of 10 titles.
Meanwhile, Norrie finds himself in uncharted territory in Rome, where he is appearing in the last 16 for the first time.
The British number one enjoyed a strong start to the season, triumphing in Rio de Janeiro and finishing as runner-up in Auckland and Buenos Aires, while he also reached the Indian Wells quarter-finals.
But Norrie was unable to build on that momentum, losing four of his following six matches before arriving for the Italian Open.
However, he appears back in the groove having reeled off four sets without reply against Alexandre Muller and Marton Fucsovics, though he will need to be at his brilliant best in order to thwart Djokovic.
The winner of this match will play either Holger Rune or Alexei Popyrin in this year’s Italian Open Quarter-Finals.
Play gets underway at around 10.15am BST on Tuesday and will be contested over the best of three sets at Foro Italico in Rome.
