Frances Tiafoe and Daniel Evans are both looking to end disappointing spells of form when they collide at the Erste Bank Open on Tuesday.
Two of this season’s tournament winners on the ATP Tour go head to head in a tasty first-round clash at Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna.
Tiafoe has landed multiple silverware in 2023 following his triumphs at Houston and Stuttgart.
The world number 14 was also a semi-finalist at Indian Wells, while he got to the last eight at the US Open.
But Tiafoe has failed to build on that momentum and arrives in the Austrian capital having lost each of his last five matches since that run at Flushing Meadows.
Mind, Evans has not fared much better since bowing out in New York, losing six of his subsequent seven matches.
Although the Briton – a semi-finalist in Barcelona and Marrakech this season – did come out on top when he last met Tiafoe, prevailing 6-4, 7-5 in the quarter-finals on his way to triumphing in Washington.
That ended a three-match losing streak against the American, who has won four of the seven previous encounters between the players.
The winner of this match will play Gael Monfils or Daniel Altmeier in the Erste Bank Open Last 16.
Play gets under way at around 3pm BST on Tuesday and will be contested over the best of three sets at Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna.
