Carlos Alcaraz is in his fifth final of 2023 and is one step away from defending his 2022 Madrid Open title. He will face Jan-Lennard Struff, still searching for his first ATP title and the final will be played on Sunday at around 17:30 UK time.
Alcaraz has only dropped one set so far this week, his very first one of the week against Emil Ruusuvuori. Ever since he was able to adapt to the specific conditions of Madrid he has been imperious. Alcaraz has such a confident all-court game that his opponents are finding it difficult to find a way to attack him successfully.
Jan-Lennard Struff is going to try to bomb his serves down and hit powerful winners off the ground. His winner to unforced error ratio against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-final was superb, almost double the number of winners. He will need to somehow replicate that kind of level here if he is going to win his first title.
The obvious likelihood is that Alcaraz will win the match and the title. However, Struff is having a fairytale run as a lucky loser, can he ride the momentum all the way to the trophy?
