Damir Dzumhur will take on Marin Cilic on the opening round of the VTB Kremlin Cup on Monday at 3.00pm (UK Time).
Damir Dzumhur has reached the main draw here in Moscow after two tough matches against Zhukov and Kolar. Damir has been struggling with fitness problems and injuries over the past two years. He has retired twice in ten months and has won just one main draw matches since 2019.
However, it has to be said that two of Dzumhur’s three titles on the main tour came in Russian indoor hard courts.
Meanwhile, Marin Cilic has lost four of his last five matches on hard courts, including a late retirement against Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round at the US Open a few weeks ago.
Despite his recent poor performance, Cilic still managed to win a title in Stuttgart and to reach three more quarterfinals in Singapore, Estoril and Queen’s Club. In addition, he won back-to-back titles here in Moscow back in 2014 and 2015 and he also reached the semifinals in 2019.
