2021 finalist Cameron Norrie continues his preparations for Wimbledon by taking on Australia’s Jordan Thompson at Queens Club around 1:30pm UK time.
Norrie will be hoping for better luck, and certainly a better outcome, than the English suffered against the Aussies at Edgbaston yesterday.
Thompson is no mug on grass though. He reached the final at S-Hertogenbosch on Sunday and should’ve won the title, losing in three to Tallon Griekspoor. Thompson has a winning record on grass throughout his ATP Tour career so deserves to be taken very seriously.
Norrie will be looking to kick-start his year after a poor European clay swing. His main problem has been converting decent form into the Grand Slam events. His ranking is still good, but he has a lot of points to defend in the second half of the season.
Norrie leads the head-to-head 3-2. However, they haven’t met since 2020, and all of those matches were tightly contested affairs, none won in straight sets.
There is every reason to suspect another tight match today. The recommendation would be to look at over 2.5 sets as a betting angle, but with Thompson’s current form he may well be the overpriced player here.
Play gets underway at 1.30pm BST on Sunday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Centre Court at Queens.
