Nick Kyrgios is preparing for the first Grand Slam semi-final of his career after easing past Cristian Garin in Wednesday’s quarter-final.
It looks as though the 27 year-old is back playing his best tennis, with his run to the last four at Wimbledon 2022 leading some pundits to tip him for outright glory at SW19.
He came through an epic five-set match with wildcard, Paul Jubb, in the first round, a challenge he found much tougher than his second-round tie against Filip Krajinovic, whom he dispatched in straight sets.
An ill-tempered match with Stefanos Tsitsipas followed in the third round. Kyrgios ran out winner in four sets, but the match highlighted both the best and the worst of the Australian’s on-court antics. The next round saw Kyrgios pushed to his limits again, this time overcoming a shoulder complaint to win a five-set duel with Brandon Nakashima and progress to the last eight of Wimbledon for the first time since 2014.
Next he brushed past unseeded Garin in his first Grand Slam quarter-final since the 2015 Australian Open. He’ll face a semi-final clash with the winner of the quarter-final between American Taylor Fritz and Rafael Nadal of Spain.
