Rafa Nadal takes on emerging star Carlos Alcaraz in an unmissable Quarter-Final at the 2022 Madrid Open on Friday.
A fascinating all-Spanish show-down on home soil sees two of the most exciting players in the sport at present collide in a clash of the generations.
A year on from their first meeting in this very competition, teenage upstart Alcaraz aims to register a landmark maiden win over his tennis idol.
Their box office Semi-Final at Indian Wells earlier this year saw Nadal prevail in three sets, and another thrilling encounter looks to be on the cards again here.
Third seed Nadal is vying for a sixth Madrid Open title and a first since 2017 as he looks to continue his prolific dominance on clay.
The 35-year-old has enjoyed a terrific start to the season with 22 wins from 23 matches, and three titles to his name, including the Australian Open.
His only defeat of the season so far came at the hands of Taylor Fritz in the final of Indian Wells, and he began his campaign on home soil in Madrid with a routine straight sets win over Miomir Kecmanović before surviving four match points on his way to a marathon win over David Goffin on Thursday.
After missing the Monte-Carlo Masters and the Barcelona Open through injury, Nadal is looking to build up a head of steam ahead of the upcoming French Open, and a strong run here would prove ideal preparation.
Alcaraz, meanwhile, celebrated his 19th birthday with a three sets win over Cameron Norrie, making him the youngest quarter-finalist in Madrid Open history.
Seeded number seven, Alcaraz is aiming to become the first teenager ever beat Nadal on clay and end his legendary opponent’s 25-match winning streak against fellow Spaniards.
Either world number one Novak Djokovic or 12th seed Hubert Hurkacz will await the winner in the Semi-Finals on Saturday.
Nadal v Alcaraz is available to watch via a live stream on desktop, mobile or tablet devices from approximately 3pm BST.
