Carlos Alcaraz aims to cap off an unforgettable week by dethroning reigning champion Alexander Zverev in the final of the 2022 Madrid Open on Sunday.

Home favourite Alcaraz has embarked on a sensational run to the final of the ATP Masters 1000 event, claiming victories over Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic for the first time in the process.

Having first seen off Nikoloz Basilashvili, Alcaraz celebrated his 19th birthday with a three sets win over Cameron Norrie to set up a show-down with his Spanish compatriot Nadal in the Quarter-Finals.

The number seven seed defied a mid-match ankle injury scare on his way to sealing an historic three-sets victory over the ‘King of clay’ in a match which may have represented a changing of the guard.

He then followed it up with a remarkable comeback from a set down to secure a first career win over world number one Djokovic and remain on course to become only the third Spanish winner of this event over the last 20 years.

Alcaraz is now 27-3 this season and is looking to maintain his unbeaten record in tour level finals, with four wins from four appearances.

Zverev, meanwhile, is bidding to join Nadal as only the second player to have successfully defended this prestigious title.

The 25-year-old began his run by coming from a set down to defeat Marin Čilić, before Lorenzo Musetti retired through injury at a set down in the Third Round.

Zverev then dispatched Félix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets before seeing off fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets in the Semi-Finals.

Zverev, who boasts 19 career titles, has won both of his previous meetings with Alcaraz, each coming last season, but comes into their latest battle as the 6/4 outsider with Bet365.

Zverev v Alcaraz is available to watch via a live stream on desktop, mobile or tablet devices from approximately 5.30pm BST.
