Carlos Alcaraz resumes his maiden Queen’s Club Championship campaign against Jiri Lehecka in the second round on Thursday.

The top seed is seeking his fifth title of the season, which would move him level with Daniil Medvedev, having already triumphed at Indian Wells, Madrid, Buenos Aires and Barcelona.

Alcaraz may well have added a first French Open crown to his collection for the campaign, but for an untimely bout of cramp that severely hindered him during his semi-final defeat by eventual winner Novak Djokovic.

But the Spaniard is still getting to grips with grass, on which he is yet to win a title during his young career, while he was forced to come from behind after losing the first set against Arthur Rinderknech in the opening round.

And with Wimbledon just around the corner, he will be desperate to quickly acclimatise by embarking on a strong run here at the very least.

But the world number two faces a tricky second-round opponent in Lehecka, who has already claimed several notable scalps this season.

Indeed, the world number 36 beat Cameron Norrie and Felix Auger-Aliassime on his way to reaching the Australian Open semi-finals, as well as taking out Andrey Rublev en route to the last four in Doha.

The Czech launched his grass-court season by reaching this stage in Stuttgart last week, but he will fancy going deep here should he take out Alcaraz.

A showdown with either 2014 champion Grigor Dimitrov or Francisco Cerundolo awaits the winner of this match at the Queen’s Club Championship quarter-finals.

Play gets underway at around 3pm BST on Thursday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Centre Court.
