Australian Open 2022 Odds | Medvedev and Barty odds-on for maiden Melbourne titles

Daniil Medvedev and Ash Barty remain odds-on favourites to claim Australian Open glory for the first time in 2022.

With defending champion Novak Djokovic absent from this year’s Australian Open, second seed Medvedev was immediately installed as the heavy favourite to get his hands on this trophy.

The Russian opened his Grand Slam account at last year’s US Open and is bidding to go one better than his runner-up spot here 12 months ago.

Medvedev has handled the added weight of expectation superbly so far and is now the 10/11 favourite with Skybet to add his name to the roll of honour.

Rafael Nadal is the only former champion still in the running for glory, and the 2009 winner is the 9/4 second favourite to roll back the years this weekend.

Nadal, competing in his first event since last August, has looked incredibly sharp on his return Down Under and has perhaps exceeded expectations by reaching the Semi-Finals.

Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas is 9/2 to claim his first Grand Slam title having lost in the final of the 2021 French Open, while Italy’s Matteo Berrettini is the 8/1 outsider of the remaining quartet.

In the Women’s draw, home favourite Barty is now the red hot 1/5 favourite to land this title for the first time, having reached the final in Melbourne for the first time.

The number one seed and current Wimbledon champion is yet to drop a single set in reaching the final and has the backing of a partisan home support.

Standing in the way of Barty and a third Grand Slam title is America’s Danielle Collins – who is into her first major final at the age of 28.

Collins swept aside seventh seed Iga Świątek in straight sets in Thursday’s Semi-Finals and is now looking to pull off the biggest win of her career to defy the home hero.
