Ashleigh Barty will lock horns with Lucia Bronzetti on Wednesday at 1.30am GMT, with the top seed looking for a place in the Third Round of the 2022 Australian Open.
Barty had a perfect start to 2022 as she won her opening five matches on hard courts while dropping just one set. She did well to claim the Adelaide title for the second time in her career earlier this month.
Barty followed this up with a 2-0 win over Tsurenko in the opening round of the Australian Open 2022, conceding just one game in the process. Overall, Barty has won 12 of her last 13 matches on hard courts.
Last year, Barty has won just one Grand Slam – Wimbledon, but then lost unexpectedly in the third round at the US Open at the hands of Rogers.
Meanwhile, Bronzetti has already played seven matches in 2022 so far and won six in the process. She started as a qualifier here in Melbourne and won all three matches before beating Gracheva in the opening round of the main draw.
Lucia Bronzetti, who is ranked 142nd in the world, had a solid season in 2021. She managed to reach the quarterfinals in Lausanne, Palermo and Portoroz, which were actually her first three WTA main draws.
Ashleigh Barty is the heavy favourite here, but we expect Bronzetti to make things slightly difficult. Our prediction is Over 16.5 Games at odds of 8/11 with Bet365.
