Novak Djokovic continues his quest for a tenth Australian Open title with a Fourth Round clash against home favourite Alex De Minaur on Monday.
World number five Djokovic is looking to make up for lost time after being ruled out of last year’s Australian Open and will be buoyed by the early exit of rival and reigning champion Rafael Nadal, as well as 2022 runner-up Daniil Medvedev.
Djokovic, the dominant force here since first landing this title in 2008, has extended his unbeaten run to a staggering 37 matches in all competitions Down Under.
The Serbian star coasted past Roberto Carballes Baena in straight sets in his opener before seeing off French qualifier Enzo Couacaud by three sets to one.
Despite having his hamstring treated several times on Saturday, he still managed to dispatch Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets but is poised for undoubtedly his toughest test so far against the last Aussie standing in the competition.
Djokovic has lost twice at this stage of the Australian Open, in 2007 and 2018, and will be determined to avoid an unwanted hat-trick as he bids to draw level with Nadal on 22 grand slams.
De Minaur, meanwhile, finds himself into the Last 16 of his home major for the second successive year and will be out to go a step further than his straight sets exit at the hands of Jannik Sinner last time out.
The world number 24 is facing Djokovic for the first time and comes into the clash high in confidence following a trio of impressive displays during the first week.
.The 23-year-old began by defeating Hsu Yu-hsiou in straight sets, before knocking out Adrian Mannarino in four and seeing off another Frenchman in Benjamin Bonzi without reply.
The six-time ATP event winner is bidding to reach the Quarter-Finals of a slam for the first time since the 2020 US Open – his best run to date – and will be backed by a partisan home crowd in the Rod Laver Arena once again.
The match gets under way from approximately 8am GMT and will be available to watch live online via the link below.
Either fifth seed Andrey Rublev or ninth seed Holger Rune will await the winner in the Quarter-Finals later in the week.
