Karen Khachanov and Sebastian Korda aim to extend their ground-breaking runs when they collide in the Quarter-Finals of the Australian Open on Tuesday.

Both players find themselves in unchartered territory having taken out a combined four seeds at Melbourne Park, where they will sense a genuine opportunity to land their maiden grand slam title.

Having never previously progressed beyond round three at the season’s opening slam, Khachanov has now reached at least the quarter-finals at all four majors after enjoying a timely upturn in fortunes.

The US Open semi-finalist recorded bagels in the first two sets of his fourth-round victory over 31st seed Yoshihito Nishioka, becoming the first player to achieve the feat at the Australian Open since Philipp Petzschner did so against Lukas Rosol 11 years ago.

Khachanov – the 18th seed – now looks to match his Flushing Meadows performance by prevailing in a repeat of his epic clash with Korda in the Wimbledon fourth round two years ago, which he won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.

Although, the American has been successful in their subsequent two encounters since and arrives in their latest contest – and will be his first major quarter-final – fresh from claiming top-10 scalps in Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz.

Korda is one of three players from his nation to comprise the last-eight line-up – along with Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul – the first occurrence of this at this event since Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and Chris Woodruff flew the flag in 2000.

The 29th seed, who was runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the Adelaide International earlier this month, built on his momentum by defeating two-time finalist Medvedev in straight sets, before edging out 10th seed Hurkacz 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(7) in round four.

The winner of this match will play either third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas or surprise package Jiri Lehecka in the Australian Open semi-finals.

Play gets underway at around 3am GMT on Tuesday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Rod Laver Arena.
