Magda Linette v Aryna Sabalenka live stream | Australian Open Semi-Final preview

Aryna Sabalenka and Magda Linette face off for a place in their first Australian Open final in Melbourne on Thursday.

Both players are appearing at this stage of the competition for the first time and will be desperate to keep their title dream alive in the Rod Laver Arena.

Poland’s Linette has already broken new ground by progressing to her first grand slam Semi-Final at the age of 30.

The world number 46 had previously never made it beyond the Third Round at any major since her main draw debut in 2015 but has already put four seeds to the sword over the past week.

After starting out with a straight sets win over Mayar Sherif, Linette edged out 16th seed Anett Kontaveit in three sets before knocking out 19th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and fourth seed Caroline Garcia in straight sets to continue her landmark run.

She then overcame two-time major finalist Karolina Pliskova in successive sets to continue to fly the flag for Poland following the exit of world number one Iga Swiatek.

Sabalenka, meanwhile, comes into the contest in the midst of a nine-match unbeaten run in 2023, following her successful campaign at the Adelaide International – where she picked up her 11th career title.

Back-to-back semi-finalist at the US Open, Sabalenka also reached the Last Four at Wimbledon two years ago and is looking to add this title to her doubles crown alongside Elise Mertens here in 2021.

The world number five has stormed into the semis without dropping a set, defeating Tereza Martincová, Shelby Rogers, Elise Mertens, Belinda Bencic and Donna Vekic along the way.

Sabalenka has won both of her previous meetings with Linette, including a dominant 6-2, 6-1 success at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Either reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina or two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka will await the winner in Saturday’s final.
