Daniil Medvedev resumes his quest to reach a third successive Australian Open final against Sebastian Korda in round three on Friday.
This is familiar territory for Medvedev in Melbourne, where he has made the last 32 for the fifth year on the bounce.
Runner-up to Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in the last two years, he is now looking to become only the fourth man in the Open Era to reach three straight finals after Djokovic, Ivan Lendl and Mats Wilander.
Medvedev arrived at Melbourne Park fresh from reaching the Adelaide International semi-finals, where he lost to eventual champion Djokovic, who subsequently overcame Korda in the championship match.
The former US Open champion is yet to drop a set so far, racing past Marcos Giron 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 before recovering from a slow start to defeat local favourite John Millman 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.
Medvedev overcame Korda in three sets when they previously met in the last 16 of the 2021 Paris Masters, and he will be hoping for another victory here.
Following his run to the final in Adelaide, the American has built on that momentum to reach round three here for the second year running.
After a four-set victory over Cristian Garin in the opening round, Korda then put Japanese qualifier Yosuke Watanuki to the sword 6-2, 7-5, 6-4.
The 29th seed will be hoping this is his maiden voyage into the fourth round in Melbourne, while matching his efforts at the 2020 French Open and 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
The winner of this match will play either Hubert Hurkacz or Denis Shapovalov in the Australian Open fourth round.
Play gets underway at around 10am GMT on Friday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Rod Laver Arena.
